The winter season has begun at the Jr. Sailing Program in Vallarta, and we’re excited to share all the activities we have planned for our young sailors. This year, we’re offering classes for both beginners and advanced sailors in the Optimist category, as well as training for older kids in the ILCA category. The season is packed with challenges, learning experiences, and unforgettable moments on the water.
Optimist Classes: Training Future Champions
Our Optimist groups, both beginners and advanced, are working hard to master the basics and advanced skills of sailing. Beginners are learning the essentials of boat handling and basic navigation rules, while advanced sailors are honing their racing techniques to compete at higher levels.
This November, the Optimist kids will face an important challenge: their first selective championship for international competitions in Acapulco. This event is a key opportunity for them to test their skills and compete for a spot in international championships.
ILCA: On the Road to the National Hobie 16 Championship
The ILCA sailors are focused on their training for the National Hobie 16 Championship in Valle de Bravo. The training has intensified, with an emphasis on advanced maneuvers and race strategies, preparing them to compete against the best sailors in the country. This competition will be a major challenge and an incredible opportunity to represent the Jr. Sailing Program at a national level.
Special Events: Christmas Posada, Boat Parade, and Fundraiser
December will be a festive month for the program. We’ll be celebrating our traditional Christmas Posada, a special event for all the kids in the program, filled with camaraderie and holiday spirit. In addition, we’ll host a nighttime boat parade, where illuminated boats will create a magical scene on the bay.
That same month, we’ll hold our fundraising event, where the community will have the chance to participate and support the growth of our young talents. These funds are essential to continue offering opportunities to future champions.
WesMex Regatta: A National Event
The season will close in February, when Vallarta will host the prestigious WesMex Regatta, one of the most important regattas in Mexico. This event brings together the best sailors in the country, and it will be a key opportunity for our sailors to showcase everything they’ve learned and compete at a high level.
A Space for Learning and Growth
The Jr. Sailing Program in Vallarta not only teaches sailing, but also values like discipline, teamwork, and respect for the sea. This winter, our sailors will not only improve their skills on the water, but also prepare themselves to face new challenges and represent Vallarta in important national and international competitions.
