Rising Star: Lyn Salgado’s Passion for Sailing

Vallarta Yacht Club’s Junior Sailing program is home to some incredible young talent, and among them is Lyn Salgado, a rising star whose dedication and love for the sport continue to impress. With the support of generous VYC members, Lyn recently competed in the Mayan Wind Fest in Cancún, where she secured an impressive third-place finish in her ILCA sailboat.

Reflecting on the experience, Lyn shared, “I had already sailed this course before in an Optimist, but it was a totally different experience in ILCA. The wind force feels different, and it was an unforgettable challenge for my first competition in this new sailboat.”

Lyn thrives on the excitement of sailing, especially when conditions push her limits. “What I like most about sailing is, without a doubt, the strong wind. I love hanging out, surfing the waves, having contact with the sea—and of course, winning!”

Beyond her individual accomplishments, Lyn values the camaraderie of VYC Junior Sailing, describing it as “unmatched.” She recognizes the importance of teamwork, crediting coaches, teammates, family, and club membersfor fostering a strong and supportive environment.

When she’s not on the water, Lyn enjoys staying active by practicing CrossFit with her dad—a passion that fuels her strength and endurance for sailing. And at home, she’s part of a close-knit family that includes her parents, younger brother, and their beloved dog Vela—fittingly named after the sail of a boat.

With her talent, determination, and love for the sport, Lyn Salgado is certainly one to watch. We look forward to seeing her continue to soar in the sailing world, representing VYC with pride!
