The Vallarta Cup kicked off the new year in spectacular fashion, bringing two exciting weekends of sailing to beautiful Banderas Bay. With predictable afternoon winds and a fleet of enthusiastic sailors, the competition was nothing short of exhilarating!
Four Days of Competitive Racing Held on January 11-12 and 18-19, the regatta featured X number of boats battling it out across stunning waters. Each day brought intense racing, skillful maneuvering, and plenty of close finishes. The afternoon breezes created perfect sailing conditions, making for some truly memorable moments on the course.
And the Winners Are... After four thrilling races, the top crews rose to the occasion. Taking home first place was X, followed closely by Y in second, and Z rounding out the podium in third. Congratulations to all participants for their incredible performances and sportsmanship!
A Celebration to Remember The regatta concluded with the much-anticipated Awards Banquet on Sunday, January 19th at Vallarta Yacht Club. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring their choice of Shrimp with Chipotle Sauce or Chicken Breast with Mushroom Sauce, along with a house-made dessert and a refreshing beer or soft drink.
With live music setting the mood and plenty of great stories from the races being shared, the evening was the perfect way to cap off an amazing event. Thank you to all sailors, spectators, and volunteers who made the Vallarta Cup 2025 a huge success!

The 19th Annual WesMex International Small Boat Regatta concluded triumphantly at the Vallarta Yacht Club, celebrating the remarkable skills and sportsmanship of all participants. Over three days of intense competition, sailors from various Optimist, ILCA, and C420 classes showcased their talents against the stunning backdrop of Banderas Bay.
This year’s regatta was particularly significant, serving as the 4th and final qualifying event for these 2025 international events: Optimist North American Championship, Optimist South American Championship, and Optimist World Championship in the Optimist class, as well as for the World Sailing Youth World Championship in the ILCA 6 and C420 classes. The challenging conditions tested the mettle of all competitors, with fluctuating winds and dynamic sea states demanding both strategic acumen and physical endurance. In the Optimist Avanzado category, the competition was fierce, with young sailors vying for top honors and a coveted spot on the national team. The ILCA Dinghy and C420 classes also witnessed thrilling races, with athletes demonstrating exceptional prowess and determination.

Members who traveled to Barra de Navidad for Cruise-in Week 2025 will never forget Phred, the adorable bandit who absconded with several snacks and other questionable things. Here is one account of that nefarious character by an anonymous observer.....
