PPJ Seminar - Now What? Yacht Transport Options
Description
Now What? Yacht Transport Options
After crossing the Pacific, and perhaps navigating for months or years on the other side of the world, a decision has to be made: What do we do with our precious floating home now? Options include:
- continuing the cruising life until we drop;
- selling the boat;
- sailing the boat home;
- hiring a delivery captain to bring it home; or
- putting it on a ship to bring it home.
Capt. Doug Danielson, Ronnie Barker (the "Tea Lady"), and joined by veteran Puddle Jumpers who have brought their boats back themselves, will present pros and cons of each option, and conduct a panel discussion on the alternatives.
Capt. Doug Danielson
Doug has been writing freelance articles for West Coast boating magazines since 1997. He has published two nautical mystery/adventure novels: Shore Loser and Wet Dreams. Doug is a highly proficient captain with extensive experience on both power and sailing vessels. He has piloted the waters of the Pacific Coast from Oregon to Hawaii to the Panama Canal. He has also made passages through the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, the Bahamas, and the Intercoastal waters of Florida. He is a knowledgeable marine surveyor, experienced mechanic, meticulous navigator, good cook, and published writer. Doug and his wife Karen are members of VYC and currently reside in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Tea Lady Ronnie
Alongside of Teapot Tony, his wife Ronnie ("Tea Lady") has operated a yacht maintenance and management programme year round since 2000 - the longest caretaking service in the Bay. Long- and short-term management will continue during the winter seasons, but they intend travelling Mexico during the summers. Ronnie has been the local Dockwise agent for nine years and will continue with this. She has a varied background on both land and sea and intends pursuing her many interests, including the various charities she supports.
