The 2024 J70 North American Championship, hosted by the Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC), concluded with resounding success. With the support of dozens of volunteers and sponsors, our club has once again proven its capability to host international sailing events at the sport’s highest level.

Conditions on Banderas Bay were ideal for the J70 class. The bay offered four perfect sailing days, with winds ranging from 12 to 20 knots. Fernando Perez Ontiveros and his team on Black Mamba set the tone early, winning the first race and maintaining their lead throughout the championship. *Black Mamba* consistently finished in the top six, securing the Overall division with a total of 28 points, showcasing their exceptional skill with the world’s most popular sport boat.

The competition was fierce, with teams like David Jannetti’s Very Odd (Enigma) from the USA and Eduardo Saenz’s Nimbus from Mexico providing strong challenges. Very Odd claimed second place with 40 net points, while Nimbus captured bronze with 53 points.

In the Corinthian division, Eduardo Oetling’s Axolotl took first place. Marco Sparvieri’s Buenajunta finished second, and Alan Elihu Baron’s Nawal completed the podium in third place.

Ricardo Brockmann’s Vincitore and Martina Silva’s Mercenario  claimed victories in the One Pro and Mixed+ divisions, respectively.

An event of this scale was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, whose contributions ensured a world-class experience for all participants. Special thanks go to primary sponsors such as Paradise Village Group, CFB Marine Group, Motor Nation, and the Nayarit Tourism Board. Their support was invaluable in providing the necessary resources for a seamless and enjoyable championship.

The dedication of volunteers was equally crucial, as they worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure smooth operations. From logistical planning to on-the-ground coordination, their efforts were critical to the event’s success. The Vallarta Yacht Club extends its deepest gratitude to all volunteers for their hard work and commitment.

The race committee also deserves special recognition for their impeccable organization and management of the races. Their expertise in setting courses, enforcing rules, and ensuring fair competition was evident throughout the championship, contributing significantly to the event's high standards.

The 2024 J70 North American Championship at the Vallarta Yacht Club celebrated not only competitive sailing but also the spirit of community and collaboration. The event set a new benchmark for excellence, promising even greater achievements in the future.
