If it’s gonna happen, we’re gonna make it happen right here!!!
Interim Commodore Eric Bloomquist inspired members at the Annual General Meeting on March 25th by highlighting all of the progress the yacht club has made in this past year by coming together to rise above the challenges that faced us and looking forward to continuing the momentum we started. He is committed to the club “doing BIG things” in the sailing world and to improving its financial stability. Taking a slogan from the recent BBR’s theme from Captain Ron, Eric declared that “If it’s gonna happen, we’re gonna make it happen right here!” Those in attendance rallied to that battle cry with enthusiasm and optimism for the bright future. Many brought forth ideas on how they can help move the club forward into a club that thrives socially, fiscally and as a boating venue.
Key Highlights from Officers & Directors:
🔹 Vice Commodore Bob Carr praised Rudy and the staff for expertly balancing the fluctuating demands of a public restaurant and a private club, while also delivering top-notch service at major events.
🔹 Rear Commodore Andy Barrow (unable to attend) sent a message recognizing the outstanding work of Sheryl on ashore events and Dave on afloat events. Looking ahead, he aims to increase member-focused events, encourage more member-led activities, and form committees to share responsibilities.
🔹 Treasurer Cliff Cook reported that although the club ended the fiscal year with a slight loss, it was a marked improvement over last year. Thanks to generous member donations, support from the Vallarta Sailing Foundation, and increased restaurant sales, VYC is moving in the right direction. Membership growth and retention remain key to financial stability.
🔹 Membership Director Charity Palmatier reminded members that we are ALL part of the Membership Committee! The best way to grow our club is through word-of-mouth—invite your friends to join!
🔹 Ashore Director Sheryl Singer received a round of applause as she recapped the successful social events held this year. She stressed the importance of balancing shore-side and on-the-water activities to engage all members and encouraged new event ideas from the community. Looking ahead to the next season, her goals include increasing the number of member-only events and finding a 'happy medium' between member-exclusive and public events to ensure both groups are well-served.
🔹 Afloat Director Dave Gould highlighted new on-the-water events introduced this year and the continued success of VYC regattas. His focus for next year? Getting more members involved on the water! He also gave special thanks to Tim Palmatier for keeping the VYC fleet in top condition.
🔹 Marketing Director Annie Bloomquist shared a rousing summary of the club’s growing presence through social media, website updates, and improved communications. She looks forward to amplifying the club’s reach next year and encouraged members to take an active role in shaping the club’s future.
