PPJ Seminar - Rigging and Sails - Getting the Right Balance
Description
Rigging and Sails - Getting the Right Balance
During the roughly three weeks that it takes to get from Banderas Bay to the Marquesas, PPJers need to get the most out of their rigs. Fuel is a scarce commodity and getting across the ITCZ quickly and safely can make the difference between being safe or sorry, or being rested verses frazzled on arrival. While boat performance is a nice-to-have thing when coastal cruising, it can be critically important when crossing an ocean.
Getting you there as quickly and safely as possible has everything to do with getting the right balance.
Mike Danielson is the well-known and highly respected head of PV Sailing, organizer of VYC's on-the-water programs, and is a very successful Sail maker/racer on Banderas Bay and Pacific offshore venues. He will tackle the tricky questions surrounding what to look for in your sails and rigging to keep the balance, prevent breakage, and get you there with both performance and safety in mind. His talk will address the basics of the topic as well as what you need to know for the challenging Pacific crossing.
Mike will remind us that performance is not a racer thing, It's a balance and preparation thing.
